about
The debut single by the group Sierra Classic Sound - feat. Freedom Bremner on vocals. As our lives revolve around work and its demands on our waking hours, the time spent commuting to the office is the land of daydream for some, of dread and alienation for others. As seasons race pass during the limbo of transit – looking out the window as hours of our life we’ll never get back – what does our daily path tell us about who we are, and how we keep in touch with our humanity? Companion animated music video developed by Sierra Classic Sound, with help from artists in Brazil & Uruguay. (Lyrics inspired by an early-morning commute from Grand Central Terminal to Connecticut, the Metro-North Railroad traverses under Park Avenue on Manhattan’s Upper East Side – exiting the tunnel in Harlem at 99th Street.)
lyrics
The Light at 99th, begins the day again
The Light at 99th, a breeze becomes a wind
And Autumn leaves dry, drop and twirl
Dust covered snowflakes dance and swirl
Mid-winter doubts, but then
You know that spring is like a train
The Light at 99th, begins the day again
The Light at 99th, a breeze becomes a wind
East River Sun, slants in train
Breaks into your eyes again
Cantilevers span the tide
Sink into your daily ride
And Autumn leaves dry, drop and twirl
Dust covered snowflakes dance and swirl
Mid-Winter doubts, but then
You know that spring is like a train
The Light at 99th begins the day again
The Light at 99th, a breeze becomes a wind
Acela brush back rattle doors
Bodega, warehouse, discount stores
Through the Bronx along the Sound
A blur denotes another town
And Autumn leaves dry, drop and twirl
Dust covered snowflakes dance and swirl
Mid-Winter doubts, but then
You know that spring is like a train
The Light at 99th, begins the day again.
The Light at 99th, a breeze becomes a wind
Faces cloud thoughts behind
Love their work or hate the grind
All the miles between arrive
A smile reminds that you're alive
The Light at 99th, begins the day again
The Light at 99th, begins the day again
The Light at 99th
